Mr. Botz is the only photographer taking photos in the Himalayas using the traditional large format (20x24cm) film technique. This technique enables Mr. Botz’s photos to portray the grand majesty of the mountains in minute detail. In digital conversion terms, this format is the equivalent of a 500-megapixel digital capture.
First traveling to Nepal from his home in America in the 1970s, Mr. Botz has returned over a dozen times to photograph a landscape and culture he considers unique in the world.
