About the Art

The Bhairava is the wrathful and most dangerous face of God Shiva. This particular artwork represents “Shweta Bhairav” (white Bhairava) or as Newars of Kathmandu Valley call “Hathu Dyo”. The mask of this Bhairav is worshipped during the festival of Indra Jatra. The mouth of this diety pours out traditional Newari cocktail and people rush to have a taste of it during the festival.
