About the Art

Seema Sharma Shah, who moved to Nepal in 1995, was fascinated by the different methods of worship in the country, particularly the worship of Kumari as a living goddess. She was overwhelmed by the rituals and felt as if she was in the presence of gods. She was shocked to see many gods and goddesses being taken outside of their temples and paraded across the city. When she saw the Samyak Jatra, she felt as if statues of buddhas had left their temples to congregate amongst the sentient beings. This inspired her to create the work series Buddha Circuit, which was created as a unique print using zinc plate etching, acrylic, metallic colors, and stencil work.
