About the Art

Chakrasamvara, a deity in Vajrayana Buddhism, is a meditational deity representing enlightened qualities. The name translates to “Wheel of Bliss” in Sanskrit, symbolizing the union of wisdom and compassion. Chakrasamvara is often depicted in a passionate embrace with his consort, Vajravarahi, symbolizing the union of male and female energies. The practice of Chakrasamvara is central to the Newar Vajrayana and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, Devotees engage in rituals, visualizations, and mantra recitations to deepen their connection with Chakrasamvara.
