About the Art

Nilpatra, a sacred art form in Kathmandu Valley, is a medium used to preserve Buddhist teachings. These manuscripts, typically 8-24 inches in size, are recited daily and have not been destroyed even after 1000 years. Nilpatra plays a significant role in conserving Buddhist teachings and transforming culture. The image of Green Tara believed to be the eliminator of the eight great fears, is on the right side of the Nilpatra, while the stotra is in the golden Ranjana script, an ethnic script of the Newa community with special Buddhist significance.
