About the Art

Khadgapani (Vajrapani) is one of the earliest bodhisattvas of Mahayana Buddhism. He is the protector and escort of religious mystics and rose to symbolize the Buddha’s strength. In the Buddhist iconography, Khadgapani is regarded as one of three protective deities that surround Buddha. This is a unique sculpture of Khadgapani by Mr. Krishna Kalikote constructed in a sitting position and holding a Khadga (double-edged sword) in his right hand. Generally, Khadgapani is depicted in red color. This sculpture was constructed by the artist using Shaligram (fossilized shell).
