About the Art

The Seto Matsyendranath is the Lokesvara locally known as Janabaha Dyo or Karunamaya. The Lokesvara is worshipped by Buddhists as well as Hindus. According to the myth, during the reign of Yaksha Malla, Janabaha Dyo appeared in a pond near present-day RaniPokhari. The god is of white complexion with half-closed eyes, looking down at the people of earth.

In this art piece, Janabaha Dyo is seen in Anjali Mudra (folded hands gesture)
