About the Art

Maha Sahasrapramardini belongs to the five protectors (Pancha Raksha) female deities, which are the personification of five early Buddhist texts (sutras). The five gods each have their roles and are built for worldly well-being and happiness, preventing and surviving natural disasters, healing snakebite, overcoming fear, and adverting pestilence and disease.

Maha Sahasrapramardini is white with four faces and eight hands. In her right hands, she holds a hook, an arrow, a sword, and a vajra. Likewise, on the left, she holds an ax, a bow, a flower, and a noose.
