Uma Shankar Shah, born in Janakpur, grew up in the ancient Mithila Kingdom. He spent his childhood in temples, listening to ancient stories and watching rituals. His art reflects these childhood experiences, including his marriage to Sita and their journey across the Ganga River. Another work, ‘Ramayan’, depicts Ram’s life, including Sita’s birth, marriage, and the battle between Ram and Ravan. The woodblock technique is used to create unique prints, showcasing the love and sacrifice in familial relationships. Shah’s work, created as a zinc plate etching, uses woodblock techniques to preserve and revive the ancient form of drawing. This work demonstrates the importance of family and tradition in shaping art.
