About the Art

The term “Mukut” is a head-wear that represents a crown. This particular Mukut is the Samyak Mukut also called Dipankara Mukut. Generally, this crown is worn during the rituals of Samyak Mahadan by the Dipankara Buddha. The Samyak Festival is a well-celebrated Newar Buddhist festival held once every five years in Patan, every twelve years in Kathmandu, and annually in Bhaktapur. The festival denotes the act of giving and sharing (dana).
