About the Art

The Hindu goddess, Sarasvati is the patroness of learning, art, and music. Initially, she appeared as the personification of the river Sarasvati. The goddess is also associated with Vac (speech) and is regarded as the goddess of speech. Later on, Sarasvati was regarded as the daughter, granddaughter, or consort of God Brahma. She is usually depicted on a pure white goose that can take long flights and carry a lute (veena) and a manuscript or book. In this sketch, two of her hand is holding veena (lute) and the other hand holds a prayer bead.
