About the Art

“The Birth of Fear” is an adaptation of Sandro Botticelli’s iconic painting, The Birth of Venus, which depicts fear and distress among women due to rape culture. The painting highlights the fear and distress women often experience, particularly when traveling alone during nighttime. The painting highlights the reasons behind women’s fear and challenges those who claim women’s cowardice. The painting, an adaptation of Sandro Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus,” features Zephyrus, a wind god, as a character who raped and married Chloris, symbolizing women facing harassment. The style is a blend of classical and Gothic.
