The story goes that the Avalokitesvara sent a Vidhyadhara to liberate the suffering of a Prince named Kavikumara. The Vidhyadhara taught the prince various skills and science. Hence, the name of the Lokesvara became Vidhyapati Lokesvara. He is also called Vasyadhikara Lokesvara as he taught the prince about controlling others as well.
