Water Spouts - लों हिटी
About the Art
Stone spouts known as hiti in the local Newari dialed are the earliest form of water system in Kathmandu Valley. People used to establish water spouts at certain localities as their perennial source of water for daily use. Idols of god-like Shiva, Narayan, Ganesha and Bhagirathi were installed within the spouts' premises as the people were accustomed to offer water to god after purifying themselves. People back then had traditional knowledge of tapping underground water through canals and drain out the used water from spout premises. The well-carved artistic stone spouts and beautiful idols around are the witness of superior Nepal's skill and engineering genius.

ढुंगे धारालाई नेपाल भाषामा लों हिटी भनिन्छ र यो काठमाडौं उपत्यकाको पानी प्रणालीको प्रारम्भिक स्रोतको रूप हो। मानिसहरूले दैनिक प्रयोगको लागि पानीको व्यक्तिगत स्रोतको रूपमा केही स्थानहरूको पानी हिटीहरू प्रयोग गर्थे। त्यतिखेरका मानिसहरूलाई नहरहरूमार्फत भूमिगत पानी ट्याप गर्ने परम्परागत ज्ञान थियो र राम्ररी कुँदेका कलात्मक ढुंगाका हिटीहरू त्यस कालका उत्कृष्ट नेपाली सीप र प्रतिभाको साक्षी हुन्।
