About the Art

Mahakala, a powerful deity in Hinduism and Buddhism, is often depicted as a manifestation of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara or Shiva. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is revered as a dharmapala, protector of the dharma, and a key figure in Vajrayana practice. Mahakala symbolizes compassion, destroying obstacles and negativities for spiritual growth. Worship involves elaborate rituals, mantra recitation, and visualization practices to seek protection and cultivate spiritual awareness. Here the artist has depicted the essence of Mahakala in a work using amazing brush strokes showcasing the immense power and compassionate wrath of the deity.
